Have you ever found yourself in whirlwind of emotions and at a complete loss to articulate what exactly you are feeling? That was me earlier this week. I woke up one morning in tears, muddled in anxiety. I was all the more frustrated because I couldn't quite articulate what in the world was wrong to my concerned husband. Finally, I blurted out, "How is it already morning?! I need it to be nighttime just a bit longer; I AM SO TIRED!" Could it be that my surprise mini meltdown was due to sheer exhaustion and a deep desire for rest? Could it really be that simple?

I realized in that moment that I had been going to bed that week on average at about midnight. I recently left the corporate fashion industry to build my own brand and it has been the wildest ride. The passion within me never seems to tire and for that I am so grateful. Grateful to have a job I love so deeply and personally. However even for good things, a lack of balance can lead to disorder. Say "yes" to too many things and the emotional fatigue is inevitable.

The trouble was all of the appointments I committed to were flooding my calendar so rapidly that I barely had any R&R time left for myself. It was a sneaky attack of anxiety that I did not anticipate purely because I do love what I do so much. What a revelation it was to realize that a huge part of executing my work well is learning when to stop.

We as human beings are created to rest in order to fly at the full speed our hearts desire. Rest and work go hand in hand. My work can only be excellent if I am adequately recharged. Upon this simple yet grand epiphany, I cancelled all my appointments for the day and allowed my entire being to seep into the promise of  Matthew 11:28: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you REST.

The next morning I woke up from a deep sleep fully refreshed and rejuvenated. A fresh kind of inspiration was born in me that stimulated a creativity that couldn't be tamed. By the end of the day, I had completed double the usual work in half the amount of time. And more importantly, I was joyful!

Moving forward, I always make sure to put on a mindset of rest along with my drive for work. Both not only compliment each other; they are vital in completing the full ensemble. The idea is a bit like putting together an outfit; in this case, it's tassels and sequins that pair together so well! These white tassel earrings are created with so much love by the fabulous Lindsey Williams of LAW Designs. LAW Designs is a Dallas based jewelry company with a heart to share the imperfect, but brave beauty of this world. For those of you who know me, I am a huge fan of tassels! I love the movement and fluidity they add to any outfit. You can shop the most charming collection of earrings, necklaces, rings, and keychains here

My hope and prayer for you my friends is that you wear rest around you like a statement necklace that is not to be ignored. That rest would ignite a deep rooted peace within you and in that space give you the freedom to explore and nurture the wildest passions and dreams you long for.
